My "What I LOVE in South Africa" List

The Christians

Portugese Piri Piri Sauce (an amazing hot sauce)

Africa coffee

Double cream (thick spreadable cream - divine)

African craft markets

Low GI Seeded Bread (good hearty healthy bread)

The yogurt

Full service gas stations

Amazing birds

Mango juice

Gigantic avocados

Gluten-free pizza (for Beth)

Singing at church in five different languages

Aerobars (light chocolate candybar filled with holes)

Provita crackers (amazingly crispy and taste great)

Weetbix (a breakfast layered biscuit that you crush in milk and eat like cereal)

Rusks (a hard biscuit meant to be dipped in tea or coffee)

LOTS of sunshine

Gorgeous plants and flowers

Boerewors (a native South African sausage)

Braais (what they call grilling out...they do it a LOT)

Pap (a corn meal starch eaten for meals)

Chaka-laka (a veggie salsa eaten on pap)

Grape-tizer (sparkling grape juice)

Lamb and oxtail

  2. Hi, Dave. I always read your posts and all this will be an education for me, too. I do agree with the other post that you are going to have to explain what alot of the things you mentioned are! The changes must be incredible-I cannot imagine. Hope the girls are enjoying their new surroundings and hope Beth is getting along okay being gluten-free-it must be difficult-but maybe their products aren't as contaminated with gluten either. Enjoy and be careful

  4. You know your turning into a real african american when you have oxtail as one of your favorite meals now. Lol! It's so encouraging to read about what your learning and just the cultural differences. This is so exciting and such a call higher for many of us on U.S territory in so many ways.
