First Morning

So much for sleep.

I tried going to bed at 1:00 AM, tossed and turned until about 4:30 AM and just decided to get up.

It is very interesting finding your way around a kitchen you are unfamiliar with, especially in a foreign country.

I had to start with coffee...or at least what I had, Nescafe. I did find the hotpot and boiled some water. Wow! 240V works faster than the 110V I am used to. The water boils quick.

I tried to make my typical breakfast, two eggs over-easy on toast with ketchup. Seemed simple enough. I found the pan and toaster but it took me quite a while to turn the stove on. It may be because THERE ARE NO KNOBS! I eventually realized it was a touchpad stove. There were markings on the surface. If you hold your finger on them for a few seconds, they turn on. Cool.

The bread is amazing. It doesn’t sound that inspiring. It is called, “SASKO, Low GI Seeded Brown Loaf.” Sounds like something prescribed from a doctor. It tastes incredible.

I searched high and low for something to cook the eggs in. I finally found a bottle of olive oil that had never been opened with an expiration date of January 2005. I figured that family wouldn’t mind if I used.

The biggest challenge was finding the salt and pepper. No success. I did finally find something called, “Herbal Salt.” It worked.

Next, ketchup. Nope. None of that. There was a bottle shaped like ketchup in the fridge called, Tomato Sauce. I went for it. Turns out, they call ketchup tomato sauce.

So, breakfast has already been an adventure. It is now 7:14 A.M.

All that I have accomplished since 4:30 A.M. was making breakfast, listening to crazy sounding birds outside, and writing the entries for yesterday and this morning for the blog.

Until later...

  2. Dave, Beth and girls,
So glad you made it safely. Reading your posts of your first days brings back so many memories. And oh the bread, love the fresh bread there, so many types and all great.
Enjoy the new things, and soon it will be home. Reminds me of when we had arrived. It is true there is nothing like the family of God, I am sure they will take you into their fold and you will have them in your heart forever!
    God Bless.
